Event Horizon: the point of no return

Event Horizon (the point of no return) for harp and electronics, was created

through a close collaboration between composer Ramin Amin Tafreshi and

electronic musician Soheil Shayesteh. The piece has been created at the

request of the harpist Joost Willemze for the Dutch Classical Talent 2023 and

is part of a larger program centered around the story of Orpheus and Eurydice.

The piece takes its name from the astronomical term "event horizon", which

refers to the boundary around a black hole beyond which nothing can escape,

and which events cannot affect an observer. In the story of Orpheus, this

concept is depicted when Orpheus realizes that Eurydice will be forever

trapped in the realm of Hades in the underworld, serving as a metaphor for the

event horizon.

Such narration is achieved in the pieces through a reflection of the

psychological states of both Eurydice and Orpheus. While the harp narrates

the story of Orpheus, the electronics portray the dark and haunting realm of

the underworld and the emotional turmoil of Eurydice.
