Text from Nesko.nl:
"The 58th edition of the Nesko will take place in April and May 2022. This year, for the first time in its history, the Nesko will play a work by a female composer, Louise Farrenc. In addition, there will be works by Mendelssohn, Vaughan Williams and a commissioned composition by Ramin Amin Tafreshi. All this under the direction of our enthusiastic conductor Stijn Berkouwer.
This year, Nesko wants to promote diversity and inclusivity. She does this by being the first student orchestra in the Netherlands to perform the music of Louise Farrenc. Strength is the central theme of this program. On the one hand, the power of women who, despite unequal treatment and criticism from society, decided that they wanted to compose and make history with it. And on the other hand, the strength of all the people who decided to follow their hearts, such as Ralph Vaughan Williams. But the power of nature also plays a role; Mendelssohn described this in Die Hebrides. Finally, Nesko promotes diversity through collaboration with Ramin Amin Tafreshi, who, in turn, connects Iranians with Dutch culture and emphasizes the strength of women. The Russian-Norwegian soprano Elizaveta Agrafenina will be the soloist in this work.
